DENR-LAGUNA Anti-illegal logging operations
On July 15, 2013, a Monday, a start of a good week but turned out to be a sad day for DENR Laguna. On the course of our anti-illegal logging operations, a pick up vehicle loaded with confiscated forest products and where our Forest Rangers were also on-board was ambushed and resulted to the death of our hired Laborer, Jessie Comendador, 19 years old, due to a gunshot wound in the head and injuring some of our Forest Rangers. This incident led to the creation of Task Force JESSIECOM in honor of the slain laborer who died while helping in our attempts to stop illegal logging in the Province of Laguna. This will serve as a warning to those callous elements that this will not stop DENR in fighting criminals of the environment. And this time, more rigorous with our Forest Rangers braver, tougher and revitalized strength in body and spirit. Gratitude also goes to the elements of AFP/PNP who also put their lives in danger and as a result, confiscated illegal lumber and flitches of different premium species and 11 heads of Carabaos used as their conveyance. God bless DENR and the AFP/PNP.
