SPREADING THE WAVE OF
MANILA BAYANIHAN ADVOCACY
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Site Management Office Region 4A (DENR – SMO R4A) and SMOs of PENRO Cavite, Rizal, and Laguna levelled-up its awareness campaign for the Manila BAYanihan para sa Kalinisan advocacy through the conduct of an environmental play entitled “Daluy-nungan” or Daluyong ng Karunungan (Wave of Knowledge).
For the first run, the team held the Daluy-nungan in Laguna at Lumban Central Elementary School and Francisco Benitez Memorial Elementary School in Pagsanjan on November 9, 2015. A total of 298 students watched the play in Lumban Central and 302 students in FBMES. The students also participated during the post-program where several students won special prizes from SMO R4A - Laguna.
The show’s primary goal was to motivate the youth to take a more active role in protecting the environment and become informed about environmental issues such as proper waste disposal. Engaging the youth in these activities not only can create direct impact on changing their behaviors and attitudes, but possibly influence their homes and communities.
The said play is a collaborative effort of all the SMOs of R4A, wherein all performers are composed of SMO R4A staff. The team will rove around Manila Bay provinces Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal to conduct the Daluy-nungan to promote awareness and win more support from its stakeholders for the improvement of the bay and its tributaries. The second and third runs will be on December 1, 2015 in Cainta, Rizal and on December 2, 2015 back in Laguna in the towns of Bay and Los Baños.
